Courtney L. McCluney, PhD

Senior Consultant

Courtney L. McCluney is an Inclusive Leaders Group Senior Consultant specializing in Inclusive Leadership, Organizational Culture, Executive Commitment, Black History, Race, Racism, and Race Equity in the workplace. She also serves as Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior in the ILR School at Cornell University. Courtney uses multiple methods to examine diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her research deepens the study of race, gender, and intersectionality in organizations by examining practices that create and reinforce marginalized groups’ experiences at work. Courtney’s research has been published in Gender, Work, and Organization; Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion: An International Journal, Social Science and Medicine, Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, and Forbes.

Prior to joining the ILR School, Courtney completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. She earned her PhD in Psychology at the University of Michigan and BA in Psychology and Interpersonal/Organizational Communications at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Courtney has been recognized for her deep expertise in organizational behavior. With numerous awards including, Ideas Worth Teaching Award , Aspen Institute Business & Society Program for “Advancing Racial Equity at Work” one of eight chosen among nominees representing 90 schools from 19 countries.

She is also honored with the Emerging Entrepreneurship Scholar Award, Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, Brown University. ILR Teaching Award Nominee, ILR School, 2021 and Thinklist Amplify Nominee, University of Bath Centre for Business, Organizations, and Society 2020.
