Hughes discovered her passion for diversity and inclusion early in life as the daughter of a Black pediatrician during the racially turbulent 1960’s.  Her father with two other physicians, formed the first minority medical group practice in the state of Ohio, serving the greater Cleveland community over 50 years, caring for diverse families across multiple generations.  Her mother strengthened that compassion in her DNA, instilling a concern for people from all walks of life, races, and ethnicities.  When reflecting on her upbringing, Charlotte says Throughout my youth and adult life,  I’ve welcomed and collaborated with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures endlessly – at home, at work, and as a citizen of the world.

Prior to launching Inclusive Leaders Group, Hughes served in roles with responsibility for strategic talent management and leadership development with, Morgan Stanley, Cox Enterprises, SunTrust Banks, Kimberly-Clark, and CSX Transportation. In 2018, she worked at Ascension Health Systems, at the time the largest Catholic health system, with 165,000 employees, 151-hospitals, and $552.69 million in income from operations on revenue of $22.63 billion.  At all times Charlotte integrated and aligned diversity and inclusion strategies into all aspects of the talent lifecycle.  Her successful performance and experience with these large workplaces is applied effectively  to every ILG client’s D&I challenges and opportunities.

From 2018-2019 Hughes served on the National/Florida Diversity Council Advisory Board – Jacksonville, embodying Florida’s best and brightest diversity leaders from a broad range of industries from academia, technology, communications and entertainment. The Advisory Board drives the efforts of the local diversity council. It is composed of various committees which are overseen by chairs and officers. This core leadership team governs the Florida Diversity Council and manage strategy for key goals and initiatives.

In 2016 Charlotte founded Health Inclusion, an HR and Diversity Consultancy to healthcare and non-profit organizations.
